Hi I’m Sijin, a philosopher and writer, and I love using philosophy to help others thrive in difficult situations and uncertain times. I hold a Ph.D. degree in educational philosophy and am certified as a philosophical consultant by the (American) National Philosophical Counseling Association. My specialty lies in existentialist philosophy, Socratic dialogue, and logic-based therapy.
It was difficult situations that first drew me to philosophy. Since I was a teenager, philosophy has been my greatest source of inner strength whenever life felt overwhelming. It’s how I make sense of my obstacles and keep moving forward. After obtaining my doctoral degree in the U.S., I took a leap of faith and left academia to see if I could touch lives outside the confines of university walls. I wanted to take philosophy beyond academic walls and weave it back into everyday life, to help people navigate difficult situations with equanimity and poise, and to deliver the magic of philosophy that kindled my passion for it in the first place.
Philosophical Solace is my brainchild in this adventure, created to revive philosophy’s ancient mission of providing practical wisdom to enhance resilience in times of uncertainty and achieve self-growth in the face of inevitable sorrows of life. Its name is inspired by the medieval thinker Anicius Manlius T. S. Boethius’s timeless work, On the Consolation of Philosophy, where philosophy helps him cope with his most difficult experiences as a senior official in Rome. Philosophical Solace stems from the belief that philosophy, once accessible only to a small, privileged segment of society, should be democratized to serve everyone and help each person lead a more fulfilling life.
Although it has been a risky and bumpy road, it is the work I wholeheartedly love. Every small impact I make, whether it’s an in-depth, honest conversation or a video comment, they all mean the world to me. I believe that, regardless of our different viewpoints, we can all benefit from bearing witness to the human condition and extending compassion to humanity and ourselves.
